The Effect of Hole Radius on The Properties of Large Pitch Photonic Crystal Fiber
Rasha Abdulaziz Faris Abdulghafor Ibrahim Abdullah (Author)
March 2011 ,Pages 49.0-60.0

Abstract: Abstract Three proposals of large pitch (Λ=5µm) photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) are studied. The effect of air hole radius on the properties of the fundamental mode of these fibers are considered. All the parameters of the proposed structured were kept constant except the hole radius were varied 0.5, 0.8, and 1.0μm for the PCF1, PCF2 and PCF3 respectively. Numerical aperture, effective area, nonlinear coefficient, dispersion, flattened dispersion, dispersion slope and zero dispersion wavelength of the PCFs were all investigated. This study shows that the dispersion profile was affected by the radius of the hole and PCF3 showed more flattened dispersion (dispersion slope of 0.015333ps/nm2.km), in range of 1.2~1.5μm of wavelength compared to PCF1 and PCF2 structures. On other hand, the increase of air hole radius increased the numerical aperture and decreased the effective area along the full range of wavelength, while zero dispersion point was shifted towards the shorter wavelength. The calculated results were compared with other published work of small pitch (Λ=2.3µm) photonic crystal fiber.

March 2011 ,Pages 69.0-77.0

Abstract: Abstract In this research, the optical activity of glucose solution had been studied through the studying of influence of this solution in rotation of polarization plane of laser He-Ne light, the different concentrations of glucose solution were selected for analyzing the intensity of polarized laser light within the range and by increment (10o), which is transmitted during the samples of distilled water (as a standard sample) and these different concentrations of glucose solution by using analyzer. Then the relationship between values of analyzer angles and intensity values was plotted. At steady intensity for all curves the analyzer angle for distilled water and each one of concentrations has determined, then all concentrations were plotted as a function of these angles and by fitting the result curve by using MATLAB Package the polynomial of first order which represents the relationship between the rotational angle and concentrations had inquired. In other hand, the distribution in (3-D) of intensity of He-Ne laser spot which is transmitted during the samples of distilled water and the different concentrations of glucose solution was studied through taking the image for each case by using digital camera. The difference in distribution of intensity in spot of laser for each case had determined that due to different in solution concentrations.

Creating Image Mosaics using Statistical Methods for Images Alignment
Israa Mohammad Khidher Mohammed A. M. Al-taee (Author)
March 2011 ,Pages 93.0-107.0

Abstract: Abstract Image mosaics is a collection of small images arranged in a way that when they are seen from a distance they seen as larger image. It occupies a wide field in computer vision and image processing area. This field is performed in four stages. These stages are selecting the target image (input image) stage, choosing the tiling pattern stage. These tiles are small images from image database. The third stage arranged the tiles in a way to cover the target image. Indeed, color correction stage where the image colors are adjusted to better match the target image colors. The aim of our work is to create an image mosaics based on Statistical approaches. Database images are collected and selected randomly. Then these images are pr-processed through a resized operation. Also a color transformation from RGB to the grayscale form (intensity). The color transformation is necessary because the intensity form shows the details of the target and the tile images to obtain effective images matching. At first we select a target image randomly. The target image is segmented to 32x32 tiles. At the second stage we choose the rectangular pattern for its simplicity as well as the rectangular nature of tile images used. Arranging tile stage is obtained, for each tile the system search the image database and selects the best matching image based on correlation coefficients of the intensity images. At this stage the difference between our works than others appeared. We use the correlation coefficients for matching operation that obtain a best matching than other approaches like Mathematical approaches which obtained approximate results such as distance functions. Also other Statistical approaches such as Histogram intersection and Statistics measure (Chi Square) used to arrange tiles operation. Finally, we perform image color correction in pixel wise using the average of the R, G, B channels of the target and tile images. The resultant pixel obtained from last step will cover the target. As a result an image mosaic is created. The proposed work shows efficient and accurate results.

March 2011 ,Pages 12.0-26.0

Abstract: Abstract In this study, the activated carbon has been prepared from the spent lubricant oils in the presence of additives which include polymers. Spent lubricant oils and polymers waste products are pollutant materials, it is possible to use these wastes to prepare activated carbon. The process of preparing activated carbon comprises oxidation of spent lubricant oils at different intervals of time. After determining the ideal circumstances for oxidation, the oxidized oil is dealt with additives which are polyethylene, polystyrene, resin of melamine formaldehyde and rubber with additional oxidation at 300 25 °C for 5,6 and 7 hours. The percentage of asphaltene in all above treatments has been determined then, the best samples have been taken according to asphaltene content. Normal and vacuum distillation have been conducted. The vacuum distillation wastes have been taken and treated with KOH (1 unit waste with 2 units KOH) at 55050 °C for three hours. Many tests have been conducted on the prepared activated carbon such as determining the activity of the samples through adsorption of iodine and methylene blue from aqueous media. The density, ash content and humidity were measured and all the properties was compared with the commercial one.

March 2011 ,Pages 27.0-42.0

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present study was investigated the immunological effects of the lipopolysaccharide extracted from Klebsiella pneumoniae against experimental infection with toxoplasmosis in mice. Immunological changes in treated mice were compared with the +ve (mice infected with T.gondii but not treated with LPS) and -ve (mice not infected with T.gondii and not treated with LPS) group at 3,14 and 30 days post infection with tissue cysts of T.gondii in the peritoneal cavity. Total and differential WBC count of peripheral blood and innate immune response represented by the phagocytic index were the criteria taken into consideration. Results showed a significant increase in the total WBC count in mice treated with LPS after infection with T.gondii, compared with –ve and +ve control groups. For differential WBC count, an increase in lymphocytes and decrease in monocytes, neutrophils and eosinophils was noticed. Basophils were not considered because of their low number. For phagocytic index, an increase was noticed in treated mice compared with –ve and +ve control groups, and the highest rate was observed in cncentration 500 µg / 20 gm body weight at 30 days post infection. It is concluded that, LPS extracted from K.pneumoniae may well be used as a active and non toxic immunomodulator against infection with toxoplasmosis in mice.

November 1999 ,Pages 80.0-99.0

Abstract: Abstract To investigate the interaction effect of iron-deficiency anemia and feeding soybean in different ratios and treatments to wheat flour, 84 albino male growing rats were used as biological model in this study. They aged 24-35 days and body weight 60-74 gr. They were divided randamlly into two main groups. First group contained healthy rats, which inturn divided into seven equal subgroups according to hemoglobin level and body mass. Second group contained induced anemic rats (iron depleted by bleeding about 15-20 drops of blood) divided into seven equal subgroups also. Both anemic and healthy groups were fed for 15 days experimental period the balanced experimental diets as follows: Wheat flour (WF, control diet), WF supplemented with 7.5% or 15% ground soybean seeds, WF supplemented with 7.5% or 15% germinated soybean seeds, WF supplemented with 7.5% or 15% fermented soybean seeds. Nutritional status, body weight gain, hemoglobin levels, growth rate, amount of diets consumed, feces eliminated weights, dietary and fecal iron contents, liver and spleen weights and their iron contents were estimated, dietary apparent iron absorption (AFeA%) and dry matter absorption (DMA%) were calculated. Analysis of variance and Duncan multiple tests of body weight gains, growth rates, amount of diets consumed, feces eliminated and their iron contents, liver and spleen weights, and their iron content values of anemic rats were lower than those of healthy rats. However, the AFeA% of anemic rats was higher than those values of healthy rats. Dry matter absorption was similar in both groups of rats. 15% germinated soybean seeds supplementation to WF indicated to have promising effects in preventing and treatment of iron-deficiency anemia.

Copper Case Equation - A theoretical study using high pressure
Adnan El Sheikh, Zeina Al Abadi (Author)
November 1999 ,Pages 100.0-113.0

Abstract: Abstract The present work, six different equations of state (EOS), have been used for studying Copper under high pressure at room temperature, by studying variation of different thermodynamical parameters in particular, variations in bulk modulus and Grüneisen parameter, which are represent a promising approach for modeling universal EOS for solids. On comparing our predicted results, obtained by using the different EOS, with experimental data, one notice that all the six EOS gives agreement with experimental data for relatively low pressure. The best agreement with experimental data, with increasing pressure, have been shown by the results calculated by Bardeen, Brennan – Stacey and Vinet EOS. While results predicted by using Birch – Murnaghan EOS shows slightly less agreement with experimental data. The results calculated by using both Murnaghan EOS and Thomsen EOS at higher pressure shows disagreement with experimental data and with our theoretical results.

November 1999 ,Pages 136.0-149.0

Abstract: Abstract The study of multi classification of data has become one of the important issues which geographical studies focus on especially those which take their data from satellites. Two ways of classification has been taken into consideration, each one completes the other. The two ways are used together to get the benefits of both and to obtain the full advantage. The data of remote sensing were chosen to be tested. The system suggested is a software package which consists of neural networks of supervised learning and neural networks of unsupervised learning to classify the land of (Al-Mosul Dam) in Mosul city. The best use of remotely sensed data is by using the methods of supervised and unsupervised classification consequently which improve the primary input data in the classification. Thus, a high degree of accuracy and efficiency in the classification are obtained. It is worth mentioning that software package used in the integration consists of the nets: the supervised ART-II neural network and the unsupervised Kohonen neural network.
